Michelle Lai

General Manager &
MYC teacher

Michelle started learning piano at a young age. These early musical experiences helped shape her love for music and she is very glad to have had them. Michelle has gained multiple certificates as well as experiences teaching over the years. She has received her Associate Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Grade 8 piano and Grade 8 theory certificates and she was a music teacher in choir & preschool for 7 years. She has abundant experience in teaching children and planning a comprehensive curriculum in music education. Whether it’s to prepare for a practical examination in a pressure-free learning environment, or systematically gaining comprehensive musical knowledge, she is committed to facilitating student learning.

Louis Cheung

IT specialist

Louis is a graduate of McMaster University in Ontario where he majored in Computer Science and Economics. At our studio, he is the IT specialist and keeps all our technology working smoothly.

 

If you see him around the studio, be sure to say hi! When not working, he is interested in photography and computer programming.

Simon Newton

Guitar & Drum Teacher

Simon Newton is a multi-instrumentalist, a songwriter, and music teacher. 

 

He graduated with a degree from Selkirk College in Music and Technology in 2010, specializing in bass guitar and audio engineering while also studying keyboards, ear training, and composition.  He has performed with a variety of bands in BC and around the maritime provinces.

 

Simon’s teaching method is to take essential harmonic information and build exercises which are simple and musical.  He works with students of all ages and skill levels, and will craft his lesson plans to the goals of his students.

Christina Nawrot

Flute & Piano Teacher

Originally from Alberta, Christina has been playing piano since a young age and completed RCM exams up to grade 8.

 

In high school, she picked up the flute and has been juggling her passion for both instruments ever since.

 

Christina recently graduated from The King’s University with a Bachelor of Music, where she studied under Dr. Peterson and Liz Koch.

 

As a teacher, her philosophy is to help students explore and expand their love of music while teaching them technical skills that open up the world of music.
